The Difference Between Pastoral Counseling and Professional Counseling from a Christian Perspective

Pastoral counseling more actively uses the Bible in a session in order to deal with issues; prayer may also be incorporated in a session.
Professional counseling from a Christian perspective does not use prayer in session, but the therapist may pray for you outside of the session.  The focus in this type of counseling is on therapeutic techniques, but faith and spirituality maybe discussed in the process of dealing with the client’s issues.  For example, a client who struggles with anxiety and worry may receive a handout on dealing with anxiety while also having a discussion about their faith and some select verses on anxiety and fear may be referenced.
Professional counseling from a Christian perspective is available upon request.  Client must inform counselor if they would like this approach.
